If I could wave a magic wand I would thank the people I love in life with couture gifts that scream “Thank you for being a fabulous friend! Here's something a little fancy to show my gratitude! XOXO” I would make a hostess goodie bag that would make a Kardashian swoon, filled with imported chocolates, a colorful Kate Spade planner, maybe a Celine snakeskin credit card holder embroidered with their initials, fire engine red YSL lipstick, and then I'd thow in something practical like a fitbit to keep the gift well rounded. However, that is not my reality. 12 of one single modest gift in my world is expensive and hard to pull off on a normal person budget. Plus I like to think that time can make up for dollars and cents, so I decided to go the DIY route, not just for monetary reasons but because I wanted to show my love through a thought out hand-made something that still says “Thank you for being a fabulous friend.”
Since one of my love languages is gold and the other is glitter, I decided to order some wooden spatulas, fancy-them up with glitter accent on the handle and attach a guilty pleasure recipe of a dish I love!
INGREDIENTS :
Martha Stewart decoupage glue
Fine Glitter {color is optional but I went with silver, gold and black}
Scrapbook paper { I got leopard print but you do you ;) }
Ribbon (but you could use string or twine depending on preference)
Painters Tape
Wooden Spatulas
Plastic bowl
Paper plate
Hole Punch
First I poured the glue in a plastic bowl to avoid any glitter getting mixed with the glue in the bottle.
Second I taped off where I wanted the glitter accent to end on the spatula. Next I thoroughly covered the handle with glue. With a paper plate underneath, I generously covered the glue with the glitter on all sides and set it aside to dry. I repeated this on every spatula and let them dry overnight. Then I sealed the glitter on each spatula with a second coat of the glue and let that dry for several hours. After they dried I carefully removed the tape from each spatula as to not let the glitter come off as well.
Once the spatulas were complete I picked a recipe of one of my favorite desserts, Chocolate Fudge Pie, and typed out the ingredients and baking instructions on small pieces of paper. I cut the recipes and set them aside. Then I cut the leopard scrapbook paper into pieces slightly bigger than the recipe to frame it and just add a fun pop of print to the mix. I hole-punched both the recipe and the paper and used the ribbon the string them/tie them to the spatulas. Also since I decided to gift two spatulas I utilized this as a way to tie them together!
And wa-la! 12 DIY gifts that still said “Fabulous” and “I love you” but didnt break the bank!
