I am going to be honest, the first few weeks of having a new baby were pretty dang hard. Between Mel's surgery, me traveling for GRO's new record release, the baby not being into sleep, and us trying to figure out the whole "now we are parents" thing; we didn't really get out much as a family the first month.
We were still getting used to the big life change that came with having a baby and it was easier to just order take out and stay huddled inside. Plus we didn't really know how to take a baby out, how to use a stroller, or even what to expect. Would she freak out and scream if we took her to a restaurant? What do we do if she has a poop explosion? This has since actually happened recently at Yucatan Taco Stand. Can we feed her if we are at dinner with friends? We were wide eyed, scared parents, afraid to brave the outside world. But a good friend came to visit us and said, "Guys, y'all need to just pack her up and get her out. You won't know how she does until you do it. Just get out there!".
Finally, after being huddled inside the house for 4 weeks straight, Melissa said, "We are getting out of the house. Lets go grab breakfast." I'm not gonna lie, I tried to talk her out of it, but her mind was made. This new momma was getting out of the house.
We packed up our baby bag till it was exploding with way more than we could possibly need. 5 diapers, 2 bottles, 3 burp rags, 2 extra change of clothes, and like 3 different pacifiers. Loaded it all in the car and headed out. We had heard great things about a new restaurant on West 7th called FW Market + Table (formerly Tillman's), so we headed that way. Excited about our first brunch as a family of 3.
Guess what? On the way there, baby passed out in the car! And she stayed that way for almost our entire meal. It was so easy. I just periodically popped the pacifier back in and rocked her little car seat on the ground.
We started out with some great local coffee and sipped it, while chatting about the fact that we actually did it, we made it outside! I ordered the "Yo Benny" which was poached eggs on seasoned greens with turkey bacon and yogurt hollandaise (I am a sucker for hollandaise). Melissa ordered the "avocado toast", multigrain toast, avocado, poached egg, queso fresco, peppers and micro-cilantro. The food was delicious, fresh and healthy. And we felt like two normal humans again, back out into world. The servers were prompt and accommodating and the place had a great vibe. I would definitely recommend it.
At the very end the meal the little one started to stir, so we pulled her out and went for a brief walk around 7th street and poked our head in a few shops.
So the lesson for all you new parents, just get out there! We have found that Rosie often does better out than she does at home. And for everyone else, check out FW Market and Table. I was sad to see Tillman's go (their smores were our favorite!), but its a great new addition to Fort Worth. Fresh food & reasonably priced! All in all, It was a great morning and I will never forget our first outing as a family of 3!
