My husband Jamey and I are experiencing a very surreal moment in our lives. Three years ago I was not able to get pregnant, but then in May we were shocked to find out I was in fact pregnant. Even after clear signs I was pregnant including the tiny bump that appeared, and the fact that I was hugging the toilet for the first 4 months, both of these things still did not seem to convince me that this is really happening. However, things like having your first baby shower start to make it all sink in. I've been to so many showers and even hosted a handful of them, but having one hosted for you where you are receiving gadgets that you will actually have to figure out how to use on an infant make it all feel real.
I am incredibly blessed that this epic shower was hosted by the ultimate dream team of girl bosses who know how to throw a good party. The whole thing was so perfectly “me” and so infused with my personality I could cry. No dancing baby pink elephant banners, but lots of black and white stripes, pops of golds and metallics, and tasteful hints of coral pink to remind the guests yes we are indeed having a girl. I thought to myself as I walked in that if Anna Wintour were a guest she would definitely approve of the décor. Unfortunately, she did not make it that night, but she sent her regards. ;
Despite how beautiful everything looked I was so touched mostly because it was a labor of love. My sister sewed the black and white table runner with her bare hands and hand painted the vases. What the heck? The food, drink, and décor was all homemade and handmade and it felt like a little glimpse of heaven as we chatted and laughed and made jokes about how a real tiny human is going to come live at my house in a few months. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I loved looking around the room at my community at the people who love us most, thinking to myself, this is one lucky little girl.
A special thank you to my twelve hostesses for pulling off a perfect evening...yes I said twelve! How in the world do you thank a dozen amazing women for putting together something so special and memorable? I did a little DIY project for them if you want to check it out HERE.
